My kitty knocked over a picture fram and the glass cut her tail pretty bad. It's so deep that it's almost to her bone... and it's about an inch and a half long.
We have had some things come up and we can't afford to get her into the emergency vet tonight... does anyone have any ideas on what we can do at home until i can get her to the vet tomorrow? My kitty just cut her tail pretty bad.. any at-home advice?
You need to stop the bleeding by applying pressure and be sure to get her to the vet as soon as possible. If the bleeding doesn't stop you have have to take her in to the vet now. Poor thing, I am sure she is in terrible pain. If it's that deep she will definitely have to have stitches. My kitty just cut her tail pretty bad.. any at-home advice?
IT SOUNDS LIKE YOU`VE DONE ALL YOU CAN TONIGHT.YOU MIGHT CAN PUT SOME ANTIBIOTIC OINTMENT ON IT AND BANDAGE IT .THE BANDAGE MAY COME OFF.IT`S HARD TO KEEP ONE ON CAT`S TAIL.YOU NEED TO PUT HER IN A CARRIER OR BOX TONIGHT .SHE COULD HIT HER TAIL ON SOMETHING AND START IT BLEEDING AGAIN.DON`T FEED HER OR GIVE HER WATER UNTIL AFTER SHE SEES THE VET TOMORROW.SHE MAY HAVE TO BE SEDATED FOR STITCHES.CALL YOUR VET FIRST THING IN THE MORNING.GOOD LUCK AND GOD BLESS!!
if you can shave the area around the cut that will help you and your vet, wrap it with gauze or something sterile after you clean it with antibacterial soap and apply alot of triple antibiotic cream like neosporine.the vet will be able to do more but you need to keep it clean til then.
Take it to the vet asp
If this is not a cut requiring re-attachment, you must stop the bleeding after disinfecting the wound.
Use Hydrogen peroxide and this should cleanse the cut. To stop the bleeding, check the kitchen for Cornstarch. Apply the Cornstarch to the wound to cause clotting. Then carefully but securely wrap the wounded area with gauge or a clean cloth.
Now you can snuggle the cat by loosely wrapping in a towel (not including her head), hold her and reassure her in a calm low voice while someone drives you to the vet.
Animal wounds are not unlike human wounds, you just have to know what to treat them with in emergencies. Unlike our pets, we don't lick our wounds, so don't use an antibiotic ointment meant for humans since it could be hazardous to animals.
The cornstarch is also good to stop minor cuts and scrapes from bleeding on humans.
There is NOTHING you can do for her at home. She NEEDS to see a vet TONIGHT!! If you leave it too long, she may get an infection in there. Also I'm sure it's painful to have a cut that deep and not get any treatment for it!!
I had a foster kitty that had a similar problem %26amp; ended up needing almost 2 inches of her tail amputated as she had no feeling in it %26amp; it would have caused major problems.
GET YOUR CAT SEEN TONIGHT - DON'T WAIT!!!
Use aproxide and some gauze. To clean out the wound use aproxide and a warm wash cloth, pat dry with clean towel and if you have any bacitration ointment put some of that on it and put a dressing on it.Do this for a couple of days, then do the cleaning part but dont dress let it get air to heal it up good.
Hope this helps you. I did it to the outside cat that trusted me and his leg healed real well with that.T.L.C
Good Luck !!!!! hope kitty gets better !!!!!
just for tonight i would bath in cooled boiled water
Huny I understand. I grew up with cats and never really had the money to take them to the vet like I should. But I think you did everything rite. Except don't use peroxide too often because it often damages the new skin cells. Use neosporin on it too. Thats would help. And just keep an eye on your kitty and the wound to make sure it is ok. Oh and buy your kitty some top of the line food like science diet. That stuff will make a big difference in the healing time.
And I know that food is kinda expensive but it's cheaper then a vet.
