Hi, I am majoring in Photography (starting Aug. 24) at University of Michigan in Flint, Michigan, but what I really wanted to do was go to an art college. My dream was to go to an art college ever since I was 15, because I don't think that I could get a good art education at a regular college, but the problem is that I can't afford to go to an art college.
So, now, instead of being excited about my first year of college like everyone else is, I am sad and I don't want to be there AT ALL. I feel like nothing is going to go the way I wanted it to. My family is excited for me because I am going to a top college and I feel bad because I'm not even happy. I don't know what to do.
Should I just take a risk and go to the art school I want to (and pay back all that money) or stay at UM-F where I already have a spot and everything?? Help!Do you think that I made a bad mistake? (Please help, I could use your advice!)
Choose the one that makes you happy!!!You're going to feel really bad about it if you go to the one that you don't like that much and you're going to regret it in the end!!Why lose 3-4 years(the years you need to finish university) and not do what you want now without wasting your time??
I studied for 3 years sth and graduated and then decided to do what i really like..!!So now I've wasted 3 years of my life and while others work on what they studied and what they like I'm starting lessons on graphic design this October and i need 2 or 3 years to finish and find a job that has to do with it!!
So just do what makes you happy....!!;)Do you think that I made a bad mistake? (Please help, I could use your advice!)
i think you should just stay at michigan for now and try it out; if you dont like it you can always transfer. it would be a lot more complicated if you ended up goign to art college and then realized it wasnt for you or it was too expensive. ';following your dreams'; is nice and all, but practically speaking, UM-F is safer and the art education at a non-art college is not that much worse, either.
I went to a big state University for art and got a great education. It's all about what you put into it, not where you go. Besides, if you become a successful photographer no one will ask where you went, they'll just want to see your portfolio. Get all that you can out of your schooling, even if it's not quite your ';dream'; institution.
Collage is supposed to be a place where you can become any thing you want to ,not somthing you cant aford. I would just take the risk of becoming something you wanted to be your whold life an artist. Besides this is the only life you get.
stay where you are. you are at a top college and you will be recognized for that in the art world.
once you get there, i'm sure you'll love it.
and it wouldnt be worth it to waste all that you already have.
good luck! :]
if ur own satisfaction s more imp den dat of ur parents...go ahead......
else jus cheer up...coz its not dat u ll get watever u wanted n b happy to c ur loved ones smilin.......aftr alll dis s wat we all live 4.....
if u r still in a dilemma...jus talk on dis matter wid dem...n den let dem decide...
College is really a pretty small portion of your life. Personally, I'd worry more about whether the program you're starting is the right preparation for the rest of your life, which will last much longer than college. If you're going into a good photography program that will prepare you for a career, quit worrying about where you're in school. If you either know now or find out once you're there that you can't come out of this college with the skills you need to pursue your career, then its time to find an option that will get you to that future THAT YOU CAN AFFORD.
Well. Ask yourself this:
Would you rather go to UM-F and regret it or take that risk and regret your choice?
And you can always transfer after two years. If your heart is screaming that you should leave and go to that art school, maybe you should listen.
At the same time, maybe you will find yourself glad to be at UM-F. I don't think the art program is horrible. In fact, it should be pretty decent. After all, it IS a UM.
Hm. I don't want you to make a bad choice. Just do what your heart is telling you to do (corny, but seriously!). If you go with your instincts, you will be happy and you won't have any regrets! :D
If you don't, then don't waste your time saying ';Oh! I should have done this/that!';. Accept it and go out there and take all the advantages you have!
You need to do what makes you happy. If you decide to do something with your life that you really aren't going to enjoy doing, then you are going to miserable. Take it from somewhere who has been there. Follow your passion. I am going back to school to do something I know that I love after 11 years of suffering. Yes, I will have a big chunk of student loans to pay back, but I really don't care. I just care waking up in the morning and looking forward to going to work rather than wanting to stay in bed.
Hi, I'm 52 and I will graduate this December with my masters in behavioral science. I have been in school for over 20 years now and it's finally ending for me. From my experience - if you are not happy with what you choose to do with your life, you are going to have to live with it everyday for the rest of your life. College is expensive - yes I am in debt, but the reward is far greater than the cost. The most important thing for myself - is to be true to myself. Whether it be good or bad - but it's the truth. Ever heard of the quote ';To thine own self be true,'; - it's your life. Weigh the good and bad of both majors - and what will earn you a living - while you can have a career that you have chosen, not one that you ended up with.
